Why Do Reviews of the Same Treatment Contradict Each Other?

One-line answer: A treatment with the same brand name becomes a different treatment depending on whose face it went into, which layer, how much, and over how many sessions. That's why reviews split so hard. The point isn't to distrust reviews — it's to sort the questions reviews answer well from the ones they don't.
It's not like buying a coffee machine
Order the same coffee machine and everyone gets the identical object. A treatment doesn't work that way: the face, the layer, the amount, and the number of sessions all differ. The name is shared; the procedure isn't. And one warning up front — this article contains a part that doesn't flatter us. When a clinic writes about reviews, it usually ends with "don't trust anyone else's reviews, only ours." That is not what this is.
Seven reasons the same treatment gets opposite reviews
Usually two or three of these overlap in a single case.
- The concern and the product didn't match — the most common one. Put a texture-focused product into a face that has lost volume and the hollow stays hollow. That's where "nothing happened" comes from
- Not enough sessions, or the wrong spacing — with something like Rejuran, where a course is typically 3–4 sessions at 3–4 week intervals, one session often doesn't register
- They expected a different kind of change — someone hoping to look dramatically different, who instead gets smoother texture and makeup that sits better, will call it a letdown. Someone else describes the exact same outcome as a success
- They looked at different moments — boosters shift over weeks. A two-week review and a three-month review are two different timepoints. And an early rave written while swelling is still present isn't an accurate observation either
- Same name, different formulation — many brands carry several products under one label
- Differences in injector and technique
- Paid reviews — repeated phrasing, a booking link or clinic name attached, several accounts posting similar sentence structures around the same date. Worth reading with that possibility in mind. In Korea, advertising using patient testimonials is prohibited
How to actually read them
- Look for reviews that say what the person's concern was. Whether their starting point resembles yours is the whole ballgame
- Check the timing — how many days after the procedure was this written?
- Raves and rants carry the least information. The long, middling-tone review is usually the more accurate one
- Read for "it hurt," "it lasted a few days," "this is what they explained to me." Those are the things reviews genuinely answer well
- For photos, check the conditions — same lighting, angle, and expression?
Sometimes "it didn't work" is simply true
The seven reasons above explain cases where the conditions, not the product, were the problem. They do not mean every disappointed review is a misunderstanding. Some product categories genuinely have thin evidence. Among the products we use, we've written that Lituo and CellReDM don't have enough published data on long-term duration for us to claim any number of months, and that for three of our lifting devices we could not find published clinical trial results for the device itself. In territory like that, wide variation between people is exactly what you'd expect — and a review saying "honestly, I couldn't tell" may be an accurate observation.
Bring the review to your consultation
"I saw this review — would it go the same way for me?" is one of the easiest questions to answer well. Put that person's starting point next to your skin as it is today and it usually becomes clear on the spot whether their story applies to you.
FAQ
Q. If reviews are split, is the treatment bad?
Not necessarily. Mismatched concerns, too few sessions, and different observation timepoints all get mixed into the same review pool. That said, in categories where the evidence is thin, the split itself is information.
Q. How do I spot a paid review?
Look for repeated phrasing, an attached booking link or clinic name, and several accounts posting similar sentence structures at the same time. Patient-testimonial advertising is prohibited in Korea.
Q. Which reviews are worth the most?
Long, moderate-toned ones that state both the starting concern and the timing. Raves and rants carry the least information of all.
