XERF Lifting in Daegu: How Much Human Evidence Is There, Really?

🇺🇸 English
One-line answer: There are now three small human studies of XERF (20, 39 and 16 patients). None has a control group, and the longest follow-up is 90 days. Nobody can honestly rank clinics from public data, so we share the limits and the questions worth asking at a consultation.
From one study to three
A few weeks ago we wrote that there was only one human study, with 20 people. That sentence was already wrong when we wrote it. Two more studies had been published and we missed them. The three are a 20-patient Korean study (one session), a 39-patient multicenter US study (two sessions) and a 16-patient retrospective Israeli study (one session).
What sits behind the numbers
In the 39-patient study, 92.3% reached a GAIS (Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale) score of 3 or higher at 90 days. But the person scoring was the physician who did the treatment, and the study was not blinded. The manufacturer supplied the device and research support. The authors themselves called the results hypothesis-generating rather than conclusive, and neither new study concluded that XERF beats older single-frequency devices.
Even conflict-of-interest notes can change
A 2024 pig-histology paper we had cited originally said "no conflicts of interest." In March 2026 a correction stated that seven authors were employees of the manufacturer. That is why we now list author affiliations and funding next to results, not just the conclusions.
Why "how many shots" is not one treatment
The two new studies used very different protocols. The 39-patient study used a single large tip, 300 to 677 shots per session (average 568.8), over two sessions. The 16-patient study split 600 shots across three tip types in one session. Different tip areas mean different amounts of tissue heated, so shot counts alone can't be compared between clinics. No randomized human study has compared shot counts.
Pain, and what is still unconfirmed
Average pain without anesthesia was similar in the two studies, 4.2 and 4.31 out of 10. Averages hide spread though: 2 of the 16 patients reported 7 or higher. Still unconfirmed:
- No randomized controlled trial exists.
- There is no evidence for results lasting beyond 90 days.
- We could not confirm a Korean product approval number.
- No study has directly measured how deep the heat reaches in people.
- "FDA approved" is not accurate wording. The US clearance is a 510(k), and its indication is electrocoagulation and hemostasis, not lifting.
Questions worth asking at any consultation
- Which tip, on which area, how many shots?
- How many sessions is the plan built on?
- Who scored that result: a blinded reviewer, the treating doctor, or the patient?
- What is the evidence for how long it lasts?
- Is there any reason you would not recommend it for me?
FAQ
Q. Which clinic in Daegu does XERF well? Public data can't answer that, because no published measure compares practitioners. Reviews aren't evidence of results and treatment volume isn't the same as skill. Pick a clinic that answers the questions above specifically and admits the limits.
Q. How long do the results last? The longest follow-up we found is 90 days. One paper showed a 6-month photo, but it was a single patient and was left out of the analysis. So we have no evidence yet for a "months" claim.
Q. Is one session enough? Published data is split. One study used one session and another used two, and sessions were never randomized against each other. We decide from your face and your goals, and tell you how far the evidence goes.
